Most frequent questions and answers about Vacuum Packaging
What is Vacuum Packaging
Vacuum packaging, also known as Vacuum Packing or Cryovacing, is a process that removes air from packaging and the product inside, sealing it closed using vacuum sealing machines. This prolongs the shelf life of perishable foods, making it a popular choice for food suppliers.
LAVA Vacuum Packaging offers a variety of Vacuum Bags or Rolls that can be used with both vacuum chamber machines and domestic vacuum packing machines.
HOW DO I FIND THE RIGHT VACUUM SEALER FOR ME ?
CAN I USE ANY FOIL?
THE VACUUM BAG DOES NOT VACUUMISE
- Check the bag, whether it was placed inside the unit below the stop bar. The vacuum bag must be placed neatly and shall not have bumps.
- Do you use structured vacuum bags or smooth vacuum bags? If you use smooth vacuum bags you must ensure that they are at least 120 microns thick and be placed specifically into the device. How this will be done will be explained in: Vacuuming of smooth sachets.
- In rare cases it can happen that that you need to press a little bit stronger, when using a new unit. Push down the device door. This is neccessary to the vacuum can be generated. The reason for the increased pressures at the beginning is at the seals.
- The pressure regulation L+ (accessory) is open too wide; close them that the device can create a vacuum.
- Remove the rectangular sponge rubber gasket at the bottom of the device and in the device door. Clean and dry them and install them again.
THE MACHINE DOES NOT AUTOMATICALLY SEAL
- Remove the rectangular sponge rubber gasket at the bottom of the device and in the device door. Clean and dry them and install them again.
- The switch “Automatic / Manual” is set to “Manual”. Note: the V.100 does only weld manual.
- The pressure control L+ (accessory) is open; close it that the device can weld automatically.
- The cover of the liquid separator is loose
- Large amounts of liquid were drawn: contact service

THE SEALING IS NOT CLEAN
- The sealing bar is dirty. Unplug the device and clean the sealing bar with a damp cloth.
- Welding band tape is worn out. Order a new welding band tape in the Lava online shop and install it to your device.
- When vacuuming rolls only put the vacuum bag to the welding tape when welding and not up to the stop bar. Once the suture was made, turn the bag and the vacuum as normal.
CAN I VACUUM SEAL LIQUIDS?
Liquids can be vacuumed in small quantities without any problems. It is always advisable to have a Lava vacuum sealer with a 2- or 3-welding for this use cases. In larger amounts, for example, soups, sauces and stews Lava recommends only vacuum containers.
The suction device (attachment) which is necessary comes with your Lava by default.
AFTER VACUUMING, THE CONTAINER DRWAS AIR AGAIN
The Lava new-line vacuum lid and cases were tested by the institute Fresenius, and held about 25 days long tight, which is on a short-term storage a lot. Generally, we recommend for cases and lids always a short-term storage with max. 10 days. Please check that the following points were taken into account:
- Please remove the valve and wash out completely, that it is always residue.
- The seals must be completely clean, without residues.
- The vessel, which is vacuumed must have a broad, smooth edge.
- The suction device always remove the device and NOT on the valve cover.
CAN I USE THIRD PARTY EQUIPMENT?
While it is mostly possible to use third-party bags, rolls (if designed for external vacuum sealers), and sometimes even other equipment with our LAVA vacuum sealers, we cannot guarantee their performance. We recommend using Lava-branded bags and rolls for the best results.
