LAVA V.100 Basic, Where German Quality Starts
If you are new to vacuum packaging and want a machine that does the job properly without overcomplicating it, the LAVA V.100 is where to start.
It is a 400W single-seal vacuum packing machine with a 34cm seal bar, fully manual operation, and the same German manufacturing behind every other machine in the LAVA range. You press the lid down, the pump pulls the air out of the vacuum seal bag, and when you are happy with the vacuum level, you press the seal button. That is the whole process.
What makes the V.100 different from the cheap machines sold in supermarkets and department stores is not a feature list. It is what is inside. The pump is built to handle continuous use. The sealing transformer is oversized so it does not overheat. Wearing parts like the sealing strip and gaskets can be replaced at home without sending anything away. That is what German engineering actually means in practice.

Manual Operation
The V.100 is a fully manual machine. You hold the lid down while it vacuums, watch the food compress in the bag, and press the Weld button when you want to seal. There is no automatic cycle.
For most people, that is not a drawback. It means you can stop the vacuum wherever you like, useful when you are sealing something soft that does not need full vacuum, like bread or delicate herbs. You stay in charge of every seal rather than letting the machine decide.
The trade-off compared to the semi-automatic V.100 Premium X or the fully automatic V.200 Premium X is that each bag takes a bit more hands-on time. If you are sealing the occasional batch of meat or fish at home, that is not a problem. If you are processing 200 bags after a hunt and want to walk away between cycles, the V.100 Premium X is worth the step up.
Single Seal
The V.100 uses a single 34cm weld strip. One seam, approximately 4mm wide, seals across the full width of the bag.
For dry goods, vegetables, fruit, batch-cooked meals, and anything that is not dripping liquid, a single seal is perfectly adequate. The seal quality on a German-made machine with an oversized transformer is not the same as the fragile single-seam welders on cheap household units. This holds.
Where a single seal shows its limits is with high-liquid foods — fresh meat, raw fish, marinated cuts. With liquid near the seal line, there is more risk of a weak spot. If the majority of what you seal falls into this category, the V.100 Premium X uses a double weld (2 x 4mm) and is the better tool for the job.
400W, 20 Litres per Minute
The V.100 pulls a maximum vacuum of -0.8 bar at 20 litres per minute. To put that in perspective, the V.100 Premium X reaches -0.94 bar at 35 litres per minute.
For everyday home use — sealing up batch meals, packing fish you caught on the weekend, storing fruit and vegetables from a good market run — -0.8 bar is more than adequate. The food is sealed airtight, air is removed, and shelf life extends significantly compared to conventional storage.
If you are working with cuts that need maximum vacuum depth for long-term storage, or planning to dry-age beef at home, the higher pressure of the V.100 Premium X gives you more margin. But for general home use, -0.8 bar does the job.
What the pump cannot do is wear out quickly. The V.100 is built with the same long-term reliability philosophy as the rest of the range. The pump is designed for continuous operation, and individual parts are replaceable for at least 20 years.
Adjustable Sealing Time and Container Mode
The sealing time on the V.100 is fully adjustable. That means it handles everything from thin dry-aging bags at the low end through to 200-micron industrial-thickness foil at the high end. You are not locked into one foil type or one bag weight.
Container mode is available with a button press. In container mode, the machine works with LAVA vacuum containers (glass, plastic, or stainless steel), standard preserving jars, and pots or cans with a compatible vacuum valve. It is useful for marinating in jars, preserving seasonal produce, or storing anything that does not suit a flat bag.
Compatible Bags and Rolls
The V.100 works with any embossed vacuum bag or roll up to 34cm wide. LAVA’s vacuum sealer bags and vacuum seal rolls are made in Switzerland from plasticizer-free PE/PA material — taste-neutral, odor-free, and built for long-term freezer storage. They are compatible with every vacuum packing machine on the market, and the quality of the material matters for how long the seal holds in the freezer.
For dry-aging beef or lamb at home, LAVA’s dry-aging bags work with the V.100 via the adjustable sealing time setting.
If sous vide cooking is on your list, the V.100 pairs with LAVA’s sous vide sticks — seal the bag, set the temperature, and cook with precision.
Who the V.100 Is Right For
Home cooks starting out with vacuum packaging: You want to stop wasting food, buy in bulk, and seal properly. The V.100 handles it without requiring you to learn a complicated machine.
Occasional batch packers: If you seal once or twice a month after a market run or a big cook, the V.100 is more than sufficient and built to last a long time between uses.
Hunters and fishermen with lighter volumes: Sealing the catch from a day’s fishing or a weekend hunt is exactly what this machine was designed for. It handles it without any drama.
Budget-conscious buyers who still want German quality: The V.100 is the most affordable way to get into the LAVA range without compromising on build quality or longevity.

V.100 vs. the Rest of the Entry Range
LAVA Vacuum Packaging — Full Range Comparison
Every machine is manufactured in Germany by Landig + Lava and backed by long-term warranty support.
| Specification |
|---|
V.100 vs. V.100 Premium X: The Premium X adds a faster, higher-pressure pump (-0.94 bar vs -0.8 bar), a double-weld seal for better security with liquid-heavy foods, semi-automatic operation, and a colour bar display. If you regularly seal meat, fish, or marinated items, the Premium X is worth the extra investment. If you are sealing mostly dry goods and lighter foods, the V.100 handles it well.
V.100 vs. V.200 Premium X: The V.200 runs fully automatic from start to finish with no need to hold the lid or press a separate seal button. Same pump specs as the Premium X, but the cycle is completely hands-off. If batch volume is your priority and you want to move quickly through a lot of bags, the V.200 Premium X is the step up.

LAVA V.100 — Common Questions
What is the difference between the V.100 and the V.100 Premium X?
Three things. The Premium X uses a faster, stronger pump (35 L/min, -0.94 bar vs 20 L/min, -0.8 bar on the V.100). It has a double-weld seal bar instead of a single seal, which gives better closure security for meat, fish, and anything with liquid content. And it is semi-automatic — the pump starts on its own and you press Seal when ready, rather than holding the lid down manually throughout. If you mostly seal dry goods and lighter foods occasionally, the V.100 is sufficient. If you regularly seal meat or fish in volume, the Premium X is worth the step up.
Is the single seal strong enough for meat and fish?
For most home use, yes. The sealing transformer is oversized to produce a clean, consistent weld, and the adjustable sealing time lets you set the right heat for the bag type you are using. However, for high-liquid foods where there is moisture near the seal line, a double-weld seal gives you more margin. The V.100 Premium X has the double weld if that is your primary use.
Can I adjust the vacuum level?
Not with a gauge. The V.100 is fully manual — you decide when to press Seal based on watching the food in the bag. That gives you basic control over how much air is removed, but there is no display or gauge to read a precise pressure level. For pressure-sensitive foods, this works fine in practice. For precise regulation, the V.300 range has a built-in analogue pressure gauge.
What bag sizes does it take?
Any embossed vacuum bag or roll up to 34cm wide. There is no upper limit on bag length. LAVA’s vacuum sealer bags and vacuum seal rolls cover this range in full.
Can it seal dry-aging bags?
Yes. The adjustable sealing time handles thin dry-aging material without any issue. Pair it with LAVA’s dry-aging bags for home beef or lamb aging.
Does it work with containers?
Yes. One button switches it to container mode, which works with LAVA vacuum containers, preserving jars, and pots with compatible valve lids.
How long does it last?
Long enough that LAVA guarantees spare parts availability for at least 20 years from your purchase date. It is rated for up to 1,000 consecutive sealings per session. The V.100 is not designed to be replaced — it is designed to be repaired if something ever goes wrong.
